Barrow dog dirt culprits will be named and shamed

RESIDENTS have taken to Facebook in a bid to name and shame dog owners who do not pick up after their animals.
A group set-up on the social networking site has attracted more than 130 members since it was created only a fortnight ago.
The man behind the group, Kevin Hubbold, is hoping the interest will lead to residents taking positive action and reporting dog fouling to Barrow Borough Council officers.
He said: “I set the group up to try and work alongside the council.
“Dog mess is everywhere, it is beyond a joke. I had to use a power washer on the front street the other night to get rid of some.
“I’m hoping the group reduces the fouling. If we take pictures of the people responsible and post them online, hopefully it will shame them in to not doing it again.” Mr Hubbold said the last straw was when his two young children, Teegan, five, and Olivia, two, had to dodge lumps of mess outside his own front gate on their way to school and nursery. Within two-hours of setting up the group, more than 100 members had joined his campaign.
The 24-year-old is now hoping members of the group can branch out and do their own community patrols.
He said: “I think it is a disgrace that people just let their dogs mess without cleaning it up.
“I’ve got dogs myself and I pick up after them, so why can’t others?”
Alan Barker, Streetcare manager for Barrow Borough Council, said: “Any information we can get off any service gives us a chance of taking enforcement action.
“It shows that members of the public are willing to work with each other, which gives us more chance of bringing a prosecution.”

Tyson or Rambo, yet another poke at a breed not a deed, most of you are narrow minded fools if you take a photo of someone in a public place and publish it you can be arrested under the D.P.A. silly! police do your job impose fines. remember how outraged you all were post christmas about when a dog was shot on common land, then how can the moderator from the mail justify comments made and published, after the piece about the public being allowed to hand out fines for dog mess in which someone wrote shoot dog and owner? allowing that is invitation to cruelty on another scale!!!

It is legal and safe to photograph anyone in public, no matter what age they are, provided it is not done in way to cause harassment or distress.How about posting a link to the "invisible" facebook group?Posted by Alexander Smith on 24 March 2012 at 23:45
