Barrow community groups share £9,000 cash injection

COMMUNITY groups in Barrow have got a share of more than £9,000.

Cumbria County Council’s Barrow Local Committee today granted a total of £9,363 from five different councillors’ Local Member Scheme allocations – a funding stream that gives each local member a sum of money to support projects in their division, subject to committee’s approval.

The funding approved is as follows:

Dalton North Division – Councillor Barry Doughty

£250 towards sports activities for children in Dalton during the summer holidays

Dalton South Division – Councillor Ernie Wilson

£2,150 towards fencing for Goose Green Community Network Group’s community garden project

£250 towards sports activities for children in Dalton during the summer holidays

Hawcoat Division – Councillor David Roberts

£6,000 towards refurbishing the hall floor, installing new kitchen facilities and carrying out building works to the porch of Hawcoat and Ormsgill Memorial Hall

Hindpool Division – Councillor Anne Burns

£318 towards additional fencing around the perimeter of Hindpool Urban Park

Roosecote Division – Councillor Helen Wall

£395 towards activities for pre-school children in Roose Community Centre

Councillor Kevin Hamilton, Chair of Cumbria County Council’s Barrow Local Committee, said: “I’m delighted the local committee has approved grants to such a wide range of community projects and initiatives and I know the funding will make a massive difference to all these very worthwhile good causes.”
