A FAMILY fun day in Barrow has raised more than £1,000 to support two lifesaving charities.
The first ever fun day in aid of the Barrow Defib Appeal and the Fire Fighters Charity was held in Barrow Park on Sunday.
The event, which organisers say will now become an annual occasion, raised £1,400, meaning each charity will receive £700.
The Fire Fighters Charity will receive an extra £700 thanks to Barclays bank in Barrow which generously match-funded the event.
Mark Ducie, the Barrow Defib Appeal secretary, wished to thank Diana Burns who played a major role in organising the fun day.
Mr Ducie said: “Without Di the event would never have come together. She was the really the vehicle that got us from day one in January to delivering the day on Sunday.”

Have your say
I will never be able to raise enough for fire fighters charity for saving my life in 2003 if it wasn't for them (Steve Cummings) I wouldn't have been able to do such a great event and It will be an annual event with pleasure, I would like to thank Danny Hoyland my youngest son for being my biggest helper and my mum who always helps because they are so greatful to firefighters for still having me, also on the day helpers Emily leeder, Simon hoyland, Jean Sandy, Naomi Thomas and Mark Marshall these volenteers make a big difference, and Mark Ducie for allowing us and joining us in organising the funday it was a pleasure to team up him :) roll on 2014 summer funday.
Without Diana none of this would of been possible! If it wasn't for her the event probably wouldn't of taken place! She put so much of her time and effort into this event and it showed on the day!Such a selfless lady, always thinking of others!
