The Hairy Biker was one of  the last contestants to ever face a grilling from quiz master Chris Tarrant.

The celebrity chef was playing on behalf of St Mary's Hospice in Ulverston, alongside Countdown's Rachel Riley, who like Dave was a Strictly Come Dancing contestant last year.

But any hope of finishing on a colossal score were dashed. The duo rounded off the show by winning £1,000 for their charities, losing out on £19,000 with their final wrong answer to a royal question.

In the final seconds of the show, Tarrant gave a simple farewell after being presented with a bunch of flowers by the production team, telling him: "Oh darling, you shouldn't have."

Fun loving Dave's wife Liliana does volunteer work for the hospice. St Mary's CEO Val Stangoe said: "We're absolutely delighted that Dave has chosen to support us."

Have your say

So he won £500 for the hospice not £1000
Thats a shame :( but i guess the hospice is now £500 better off at least. Well doone Dave anyway sure you will stick some of the Strictly money in to make up for the 19000 you lost? lol
