AN outstanding hairdressing apprentice has proved she is a cut above the rest.
Ashleigh Harper, from Barrow, has recently been named student of the term at Kendal College.
The 19-year-old works at The Salon, in King Street, Ulverston, four days a week and on her day off goes to the college, where she is studying for her level three qualification.
She has high hopes for her future and is pushing herself by trying to complete the two-year course in just half that time.
But Miss Harper said she was still shocked when she learned she had come top of her class of 20 people.
She said: “I didn’t think I had a chance of winning.”
She hopes to continue her studies at the end of the year and get her level four qualifications.
Miss Harper said she would like to try her hand at a more managerial role and use her skills to travel the world.
She added: “I would like to work in Australia – somewhere hot.”
Her employers, Tony and Marie Smyth, said they are enormously proud of their apprentice and believe she has the ability to go a long way in the profession.
