Barrow airfield remains open

WALNEY Airfield has continued to operate, despite its emergency route being ruined by coastal erosion.

The road at West Shore Park was the emergency route but BAE Systems confirmed there are other routes and operations are unaffected.

A spokeswoman said: “Alternative routes to the airfield have been identified and BAE is working with emergency services and the council to agree on a more permanent arrangement for emergency access to the area.”
