Barrow AFC's plans for new £9million stadium

BARROW could soon be home to a £9m new football stadium, the Evening Mail can reveal.

Have your say

Merlin.. Do you spout rubbish just to antagonize the AFC lot, or is it because you cannot help it ?

..."if we had got to Wembley"......dream on Merlin......

Well blooobird,at least we Barrow Rugby supporters can spell.Barrow is a Rugby town and always has been, the soccer will always play second fiddle. If we had got to Wembley we would have taken more than 8,000.

Merlin Godwit, we dont care what you think, the rugby will never compete with the likes of wigan as they are rubbish,
Let the rugby come up with there own palns to develope there dump of a ground, oh they cant can they? as theres no room or money!!!

I totally disagree with Merlin Godwits post on 1st March in which he supports Peter Roes line where "people should put thier money into Barrow RLFC as opposed to Barrow AFC" so they can compete with the likes of Wigan, Bradford & Leeds.
Well Merlin Godwit if you take notice of your recent history you will see perfectly well that Barrow AFC CAN compete with premiership opposition like Middlesborough & Sunderland to name.
Not only that when a rugby team like say Millom draw Bradford Bulls in a cup competion the result is more or less predicable where as in football it isn't.
There's more chance of an upset on the cards in the FA cup as past cases have proved.
Also in answer to the question you posed Barrow AFC want a new ground because they have as much a chance as any club at getting football league status which is one of many reasons I oppose any ideology on ground sharing.
You only have to look at some of the state some pitchs are in on the Football League show where the lines are coming through!

actually ram . i am of an age were in past times when afc and the rugby played on the same day ,but at different times, i was one of the few who went to both matches and still do support both codes,
but time goes by and i feel now is the time for the town and all those concerned come to realise that both grounds are of an age gone by, and supporters of both codes deserve better , even if that means sharing in a new ground .or in the years to come more cash will be thrown down the drain making good with old facilities . after all it wasnt to long ago an appeal went out to sign up for cash to update the toilets (the same ones i used 50 years ago ). so come on you hard nosed supporters move with the times and really help you clubs move into a new era before its to late

And there goes Bob,another covert Barrow rugby supporter.

has work on the new ground started yet.

What do Barrow Soccer want a new ground for?,they are never going to get back into the Football League. As Peter Roe said the day after Wigan Athletic thumped Barrow Soccer 4-0 in the FA cup a few years ago now,"people in Barrow should be putting money into the Rugby club to enable them to compete with the likes of Wigan,Bradford and Leeds, rather than the Soccer, who can never compete with the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd".

for sale two grounds holker street.and craven park.very old ,poor facilities.exspensive to maintain ,poor support except for the magical 800 or so,
no lets take them of the market and wait a few more years until the grounds are really poor and then sell them.
and then lets build a ground that the town deserves and not the grounds they both have now
