A "DEVASTATED" mother paid tribute to her daughter after she died at a mental health hospital in Yorkshire.

Lisa Ann Hucknall, 39, had fought schizophrenia and paranoia for over 20 years before her death at the Priory Hospital in Keighley, on February 8 2016.

Assistant coroner Mr Robert Chapman recorded a verdict of natural causes at an inquest into her death at Barrow Town Hall today [Tuesday].

Patricia Hucknall, Lisa's mother, paid tribute to her daughter, saying: "She was always a happy, friendly, funny child.

"Nothing will bring back our daughter but she'll live in our memories forever."

Miss Hucknall had been moved away from her family when she was transferred to the Yorkshire hospital in December 2015 from Barrow's Dova Unit.

She collapsed on February 6 and staff and paramedics spent 40 minutes giving her CPR before her heart started again.

A post-mortem found she died two days later from sepsis, bronchitis and bronchopneumonia resulting from emergency treatment and ventilation following her collapse.

Much of the inquest focused on the circumstances surrounding her collapse on February 6.

Recording his verdict, Mr Chapman said: "The hospital scan showed her brain was dead and that was a direct result of being without a heartbeat for so long. She died very quickly and unfortunately there was just nothing that could be done after her collapse.

"What is not clear, regrettably, is what caused her collapse. She hadn't shown any medical concern that morning.

"It may be that it was a combination of her various ailments. She had low oxygen levels, may have been redeveloping a chest infection and she was a heavy smoker. We also know she was suffering from an enlarged heart."

The inquest had earlier heard about the circumstances of her transfer out of Barrow.

Mr Chapman said: "I agree that she couldn't stay on an acute ward in Barrow because it didn't seem to be doing her any good.

"What the mental health team were looking to do was to rehabilitate her and try to make her as well as she could possibly be.

"She had been suffering for a number of years but her family gave her support all through her life and I am sure that it gave her some comfort."
