Fame could be on cards for street magician Lee from Askam

A STREET magician whose reputation is growing by the day dazzled shoppers with tricks from his remarkable repertoire.
Lee Kavanagh enjoyed a defining breakthrough gig at a legends’ darts exhibition in Leicester last month when his talents befuddled a 600-strong audience.
The 20-year-old, who only seriously took up magic around a year ago, wowed the crowd and earned himself some major contacts which promise to catapult him to the next level in his bid for stardom.
The apprentice painter and decorator bewildered darters Eric Bristow, John Lowe, Kevin Painter and Jamie Caven and blew the minds of punters as he performed table-to-table and on stage.
Mr Kavanagh, stage name Kavano, has since been booked to perform at a host of shows, working with North West Sports Events, including a gig at Burnley FC on the same bill as former England and Southampton footballer Matt Le Tissier.
The former Dowdales pupil, of Fawn Close, Askam, said: “I must have heard about 50 times ‘watch out Dynamo’ (the street magic sensation, as seen on TV).
“I didn’t expect any of it.
“I got a big round of applause at the end, they were absolutely gobsmacked.
“People were saying they would travel two hours just to see me and I’d been thinking beforehand that no one was even going to know I’m there.
“It was crazy.”
Mr Kavanagh, who is completing a painting and decorating course at Furness College, performed a handful of his tricks before some interested onlookers in Dalton Road on Thursday.
Charlotte Taylor, 20, of New Street, Barrow, said: “It was amazing. I’ve no idea how he did it.”
Nikki Logan, 20, of Ramsden Street, Barrow, said: “I would love to know myself how he did it.
“We’ve seen it on TV, but never before in real life.”
Mr Kavanagh was asked to sign numerous autographs at the darts show in Leicester and would love to forge a career from his talents.
He said: “It will be a year this month since I started.
“And just from picking up a pack of cards and looking on You Tube, to doing these shows and having people telling you ‘you could be as good as the best magician in the world’, it’s crazy.
“I’ve been told to make merchandise and do a website, but I can’t afford it yet, I’m just an apprentice painter and decorator.”
