A CUMBRIAN farmer has been shortlisted for the 2018 British Farming Awards.

James Duerden, Killerwick Grange, Askam, has been put forward for the Beef Innovator of the Year Award.

The 60 finalists nominated this year aim to showcase the huge variety of farmers which make up the broader community.

From arable, to diary, sheep to beef, individuals have been selected for the awards based on their hard work, determination and innovation within a vitally important sector of the UK's economy.

Ben Briggs, editor of the Farmers Guardian, whose parent company organised the award, said: “The British Farming Awards celebrate and showcase the innovation, enthusiasm and drive of individuals who make UK agriculture so special.

“Farmers feed the nation, shape our stunning countryside and are the heartbeat of rural communities, which is why it is so important we recognise their contribution through these awards."
