A TWO-NIGHT run by one of Britain’s top comedians has helped cement a west Cumbrian theatre’s reputation on the national circuit.
Alan Carr played to a packed Beggar’s Theatre, in Millom, on Friday and Saturday and the host of Chatty Man was the latest in a string of big names to visit the venue.
Tracey Procter won two tickets for the show through the Evening Mail.
She said: “It was a really good night, I’ve not seen him before. I went with my friend Nicola, we had a really good laugh.
“I’ve been to a few shows before, it’s a good venue and it’s good the big names are coming to Millom.”
The gigs were hailed a massive success by Jakki Moore, the founder of the venue. She said: “It was absolutely brilliant, the audience loved him.
“We’re getting bigger and bigger, we’ve got Omid Djalili coming back in October and Stephen K Amos is coming back too.”
Mr Carr’s set was tailored to the town with a few jokes about Haverigg Prison, the Devonshire Arms and even a mention of the Evening Mail thrown in on the Saturday performance.
Ms Moore said a number of acts had asked about playing at the Beggar’s Theatre and the second Omid Djalili show came about after his management approached her.
She added: “Alfie Moore (who is playing in June) asked if he could come and we were the first venue Omid Djalili’s team rang.”
The venue opened five years ago. The first big name to visit was Bill Bailey who played on June 1, 2010 before the likes of Ed Byrne, Jon Richardson and Stephen K Amos followed suit.
