Walk to Piel Island
Piel Island picnic walk Saturday 19 August
John Murphy will lead a stroll across the sands to Piel on Saturday lunchtime.
Walkers will meet at The King Alfred Hotel, on Walney from 12.45pm.
A car convoy will travel to Snab Point on the island to make the crossing at 1pm.
It is a two-mile amble to the island to see the Piel Castle ruins, and there may be the opportunity to see seals on the way.
Walkers can enjoy a picnic and refreshments from the Ship Inn.
Dogs on leads are welcome. Walkers need suitable footwear and clothing.
Stone Skimming Championships
All England Stone Skimming Championship, Saturday 19 August, 11am-4pm Location: Fell Foot Newby Bridge, Windermere, Cumbria, LA12 8NN The annual Stone Skimming Championships - once again taking place at Fell Foot - are officially recognised within the sporting world Men, women, children (under 11s and 11s to 16s), as well as teams, can all enter and try to scoop an official record.

Lakeland Country Fair
Sunday 20th of August 2017: 12.00pm.
Traditional Cumbrian country show featuring hounds, beagles, terriers, lurchers, whippets, pet dogs, fell races, wrestling, children's sports, stick show, Young Farmers' Tug-of-War, horn-blowing competition. Plus ring displays, demonstrations of Lakeland skills, trade stands, refreshments, bar and barbecue.
