A West Cumbrian charity is inviting volunteers to go on short-term trips to help Sudanese refugees in Uganda.

Bootle Refugee Aid Cumbria UK (BRACUK) is well-known for helping people in war-torn countries across the world.

A number of volunteers have already travelled to Uganda to distribute items to families and children living in a refugee camp.

There are some 39,000 refugees in the Nyumanzi Refugee Camp, who have fled from famine and war in the Sudan.

BRACUK chairman Joan Capp is calling on people who have a raft of skills to travel to the camp to help others.

She said: "We are looking for people such as music teachers and footballers to go to the camp. Some people might be able to go out for a couple of weeks which would be great. We are looking for more people to get involved in the work we do."

Many people from across West Cumbria support, and give to the charity, to enable it to help others, said Joan.

The charity also buys items for recreational activities including goal posts and tennis nets.

Joan said BRACUK buys these items for the refugees to take their mind off the "terrible things" they have have seen.

Anyone who is interested in getting involved in the charity can contact Joan Capp on 01229 718248.
