West Cumbrian punk band Fat Albert have created a music video in response to the forthcoming General Election.

The busy three-piece – frontman David ‘Jen’ Nicholson, 52, of Calder Drive, Workington, bassist Dave Carr, 34, of Whitehaven and drummer Barry McGlasson, 48, of Elterwater Avenue, Workington – are gigging up and down the country with their new album Stand Strong.

The Living in Workington video was posted on social networking website Facebook and has already had thousands of views.

Barry said: "We knew the song was a strong one – it's all about our home town.

"We wrote it to lament the things the town has lost, but also to show we are strong enough to fight back.

"There's been a lot of damage done to West Cumbria over the years.

"Although this is not an overtly political song, backing one party over another, when the General Election was called, it seemed like a good time to release the track as people's minds are focused on what political parties over the years have done for them, or not done.

"We're thrilled by the amount of interest shown in it and the number of shares it has had."

Fat Albert formed in 2008 and has had several different line-ups over the years.

The festival regulars have performed at Solfest and supported the Anti-Nowhere League in West Cumbria and are looking forward to supporting UK Subs in November.

The band takes it name from an American aeroplane and have performed with fellow punk bands including Sham 69 and Vice Squad.

Jen is the only original member of the group.

Jen says: “We’ve had a few line-ups that didn’t quite work and we were more like a local band to start with, playing at the Carnegie and Lounge 41.

“We’re getting about most weekends to punk festivals. People say to me ‘I didn’t know you were called Albert’."

Barry says: “I used to go down to practices and I used to jump on the drums when their drummer couldn’t make it.

“It couldn’t be any better. We all like the sort of music which is punk n oi!.”

The group released their first EP in 2011 called Tales of a Two Pint Rambo .

They recorded their first album in 2013 which was called Useless Generation and had 10 songs.
