A luxury waterside hotel in Cumbria celebrated its first anniversary with a teatime favourite.

Staff and guests at Another Place on the shores of Ullswater, marked the occasion with a specially created birthday cake made out of Tunnock’s Teacakes.

The hotel is renowned for having jars of the famous teacakes dotted around the building.

As a nod to this, the giant cake was constructed from 192 of the sweet treats.

Another Place opened last August employing 90 staff in what used to be Rampsbeck Country House Hotel after a £3.5million upgrade.

Since then over 12,000 guests from all over the world have stayed at the hotel.

It has been developed by Will Ashworth who also owns the Watergate Bay Hotel in north Cornwall.

He said: "It’s been a busy 12 months. I don’t think any of us quite realised what an undertaking it would be to open a hotel 400 miles away from our native Cornwall.

"We’ve been very fortunate to have had such wonderful support from local businesses and individuals here in Cumbria."

The hotel offers opportunities for guests to try out open-water swimming, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, cycling, walking and skiing.

It does this by working with a number of local businesses to offer outdoor activities.

These include Watermillock’s Distant Horizons who offer canoeing, kayaking and torch-lit family night walks, Ullswater Paddleboarding and Colin Hill from Martindale’s Chill Swim.

It was named New Business of the Year in the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2018 and was shortlisted for Best New Hotel at the Independent Hotel Show.
