AIR ambulance crews have taken a teenage girl to hospital following a serious collision on the A595 in Cumbria.

The accident happened just north of Bootle at 8.07am today. It involved a Peugeot 208 and a Nissan Qashqai.

The driver of the Peugeot, a teenager, was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital. She sustained pelvis and abdominal injuries as well as a wrist injury.

She was treated at the scene by North West Ambulance Service paramedics and the Great North Air Ambulance Service doctor-led trauma team before being flown to hospital where she was stable on arrival.

Police arrested the driver of the Nissan – a 28-year-old man – on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving.
