THE victim of a fatal crash which happened on the A596 on Saturday night has been named by police.
Audrey Tunstall, of Cape Road, Seaton was walking with another woman aged 35, when they were struck by a Volkswagen Passat car on the busy A596 road at 7.20 pm.
The 79-year-old was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle where she died.
The younger woman was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and police have confirmed that she remains in a serious, critical condition.
A 46-year-old Workington man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but was later released on bail.
Police closed the A596 both ways between Ellenborough Road in Maryport and Northside roundabout in Workington for forensic investigation work to take place.
Anyone who saw the collision is asked to call 101 and speak to PC2090 Hynes of the Mobile Support Group.
