Three men charged with conspiracy to supply drugs at Kendal Calling have been jailed for more than 12 years.

The trio were arrested following a police investigation into the death of 18-year-old Christian Pay at least year's festival, near Penrith.

Mr Pay, of Millom, died in hospital having been taken ill at the Kendal Calling site last July.

Michael Mountfort, 42, was today jailed for seven years, Luke Fraser, 21, was sentenced to four years and eight months and Simon Chapman, also 21, was given a 16 month jail term.

Mountfort, from Manchester, denied that he was involved in a conspiracy to supply class A drugs over the course of several months but was convicted after trial.

Chapman, a friend of Mr Pay's from Race Grove, Millom, and Fraser, from Manchester, had admitted their roles.

Sgt Paddy McDonnell said: “The thorough police investigation following the tragic death of Christian Pay and the subsequent sentences handed down by the judge clearly show how seriously the police and courts see the issue of drug dealing in the community.

“The case gives a strong message about the significant dangers of the use of illicit controlled drugs.

"Not only is the taking of controlled drugs illegal but poses a real threat to people’s health and ultimately in this case proved fatal.

“Our thoughts remain with the family of Christian."
