A PEDESTRIAN killed in a crash on the A6 in South Cumbria has been described by his family as a "devoted husband".

At around 8.40pm on Tuesday December 6, pedestrian Peter Hunt was hit by a car on the A6 at Levens Hall. The 83-year-old was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary but later died.

His family described him in a moving tribute.

"Mr Hunt, a retired caretaker for Cumbria County Council who had served for several years in the RAF in his early life, and his wife Joyce, 83, a former secretary for a local estate agent, came to live in Kendal nearly 40 years ago to enjoy their lifelong passion for exploring the Lakeland fells together.

"In later years they remained fit and active, making the most of all the Lakes offered them, even as their mobility declined.

"A sudden change in Mrs Hunt's health this year found her in a Lancaster care home, after many months in Lancaster hospital, and Peter had made the long journey to see her every day that his own health would allow.

"They were a devoted couple, married for over 60 years and originally from Liverpool. They enjoyed watching their daughter Reina and son-in-law Ian’s two sons grow up during many happy times spent with them at their home in East Sussex.

"Peter’s sudden death has come as a great shock to his close family and he will be greatly missed."

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call 101 and speak to PC1567 Jackson or Sgt 1929 Bainbridge of the Mobile Support Group.
