THE family of a woman who died after a crash near Penrith have paid tribute to a "loving wife and mother."

Ann Miller, 74, from the Penrith area, died of her injuries in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle yesterday.

She was the front seat passenger in a VW Golf which was travelling north on the A6 between Penrith and Carlisle on August 9.

Her family said in a statement: “Ann was a very quiet and respectful, genuine person. She loved to look after her family and was a good cook.

“She cared deeply for her husband, children including the late Matthew, grandchildren and wider family.

“Ann was originally from Carlisle but lived in Penrith where she was well known and she enjoyed shopping, particularly with her daughter Louise.

“Ann will be very sadly missed by all her family including her husband Matthew, children Louise, George, William, Matthew and Marlene.”

At approximately 12.30pm, in the area of Plumpton Foot, the car collided with a white Mercedes van which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Mrs Miller was airlifted to hospital and the family would like to extend their thanks to the Air Ambulance and Paramedic crews, staff at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle, staff at Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle and Cumbria Police for their care and help during this difficult time.

The driver of the VW Golf was taken to CIC with minor injuries.

The van driver was uninjured.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision.
