MONTHLY bin collections are being tested in parts of the country as a cost-cutting exercise by some councils.

Falkirk Council will be the first one in Britain to introduce four-week rubbish pick-ups in October.

Other councils in England and Wales are expected to follow and trial the scheme, while others have already adopted three-week collections such as in Bury.

The idea has sparked debate, with some arguing it will lead to more rats and flies, and others believing it will encourage people to recycle more.

Would you support monthly bin collections?
With spending cuts and calls for people to recycle more and throw less away, what do you think about the idea of having your bins emptied once every four weeks?
Yes, because it will force people to think about their waste and make sure money is spent on core services elsewhere.
No, because it will cause nasty smells, increase fly-tipping and lead to more rats.
