TWO lanes of the northbound carriageway and one lane of the southbound carriageway of the M6 in Cumbria are closed this morning.

The closures is in place between junctions 41 and 42 after an earlier HGV fire and between junctions 40 and 39 because of a collision caused by snow.

This morning's incident follows a crash last night in which a heavy goods vehicle left the carriageway.

The motorway was closed and motorists experienced significant delays for several hours after the collision, which happened at around 9.30pm. The motorway was fully reopen by 2.40am.
