TWO teenagers have admitted being involved in a knifepoint robbery at a post office in Ravenglass.

The case of Reece Kirk, 19, and a 17-year-old male who can't be identified because of his age, came before Carlisle Crown Court today.

Both admitted robbing a staff member at Ravenglass Post Office of a quantity of cash on January 11.

During a short hearing, Judge Peter Davies was told the youth had admitted being involved on the basis that he was "heavily influenced" by his co-defendant.

Barrister Alison Whalley represented Kirk and maintained it had been a "joint enterprise".

"He accepts it was his drug debt which led to the enterprise itself," said Miss Whalley.

"He fully accepts he had the knife.

That is evidenced by the wound to his hand."

No other information about the raid was outlined in open court.

Police said at the time they were alerted to the incident at 10.20 am.

A spokesman stated the post office employee had been threatened by two males "dressed in black with their faces covered".

The spokesman added that "fortunately nobody was hurt" during the robbery.

Judge Davies adjourned the case and was told an adolescent psychiatric report would be prepared on behalf of the youth.

He was granted conditional bail.

Meanwhile Kirk, of Murrayfield Terrace, Ravenglass - who appeared in court via videolink - was remanded in custody.

Both teenagers are due to be sentenced at the crown court on April 21.
