Vital suicide alertness training is taking place across Copeland in a bid to raise awareness of mental health.

Members of the community are being invited to Millom Library on Wednesday to get trained up and ask questions.

A session was held at Cleator Moor library this week for the public to attend.

The sessions Suicide Alertness - Living Matters have been organised by Cumbria County Council.

The aim is to "provide skills and support to both staff and volunteers", the council said.

A spokesman said the sessions, which are being funded by Public Health England, look at depression in rural and isolated areas.

"The sessions are open to everyone. We would encourage as many people as possible to come down," the spokesman added.

People can attend the session at Millom Library, on St George's Terrace, anytime between 1pm until 4pm.

Numerous campaigns are up and running in a bid to raise awareness about mental health well-being.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry are spearheading The Heads Together campaign to end stigma around mental health.

The campaign is a partnership with charities that provide mental health support to people as well as raising awareness and tackling stigma.

Awareness days such as World Mental Health Day on October 10 also aims to highlight issues and reduce stigma attached to mental health well-being.
