A 21-YEAR-OLD South Cumbria pilot who emerged as a star of a prime-time TV documentary series is pleased that he could encourage others to pursue their dream careers.

Ryan Clyde, of Askam, made his first passenger flight landing in front of the TV cameras for ITV's easyJet: Inside the Cockpit.

In the scenes which aired last night, millions of TV viewers saw the former Chetwynde School headboy landed an £80m Airbus in Paris, in the dark, and with 186 passengers, who were unaware that their pilot was making his debut commercial flight.

Ahead of his first passenger flight the fresh-faced pilot said it would be "cool" to fly passengers and that he felt "positive" and was "focused on the excitement."

After executing a textbook landing he said: "When you tell people you're 20, it's a mixture of disbelief and 'oh wow you achieved all this at 20'. It makes me feel quite proud actually when people recognise that. Yeah I'm 20 and I fly planes."

The now first officer started his career with easyJet in January and was 20 at the time of filming. He is based in Paris and flys from Charles de Gaulle Airport, Next year he will be based in Manchester.

The young pilot, who is now recognised by the after his appearances on the two-part series, had wanted to fly planes since he was a young boy. At 16 he got a flying lesson at Blackpool as a Christmas present.

He has received lots of feedback on social media congratulating him on achieving his dreams at a young age, and from other young people wanting to pursue their ambitions.

Mr Clyde told the Mail: "The series has been great. Lots of people have been encouraged to pursue their dream of becoming a pilot, and even more have been assured pilots are very well trained and professional, but still normal people."

Many people on social media have said they want to see a second series of easyJet: Inside the Cockpit.

Mr Clyde said: "I'm hoping they consider a series two."
