An exciting, eye-opening glance at your future will be on the cards at SkillsFest at The Forum, Barrow, on Saturday.

Expert advice will be on-hand at the event to help you with crucial career choices, with trade stands, interactive workshops and guest speakers at the free event, which takes place from 10am until 3pm.

It’s advice not to be missed, giving you the inside track on your chosen path - or to help you decide on which path to travel.

The popular annual showcase will this year include representatives from BAE, Siemens, Oxford University, Cambridge University and Furness College among others and will display the range of opportunities available to young people in both Furness and the wider area.

The event is suitable for all ages, open to students, parents and the general public.

In addition to the opportunity to make contact with potential future employers, there will also be a chance to win a Nintendo Switch in a prize draw open to the public that includes Amazon Fire Sticks and Bluetooth speakers.

Guest speakers at this event are always worth catching because they have vital inside knowledge that they’re keen to pass on.

Speakers at this year’s event are scheduled throughout the day and include employability skills and enterprise expert, Andrew Bernard. BAE will also host the opportunity to take some interactive aptitude tests, giving advice on problem-solving that promises to be both informative and fun.

The universities of Oxford and Cambridge will both have representatives at the event for the first time. This is a fantastic opportunity to speak with the very best in the industry and shouldn’t be missed if you’re considering an application to any further education centre. Feel free to ask them about grades and entry requirements but also University life in general.

An interesting addition to the event this year, Paul Crarey from the Barrow Raiders rugby league team will be at the Forum to speak on the importance of team sports and how the skills learned are transferred into later life.

Barrow Raiders and Barrow Football Club will also be running some interactive activities and drills. Take the chance to chat with them if you’re considering a career in sport.

Something for everyone to take away with them and a regular point of discussion in the media, Miller Waite will be available at the event to explore the topic of staying safe online. If you have any questions on protecting your data or child safety on the internet etc, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

Free bus transport will be available from areas in Barrow and Ulverston.

With more than 80,000 employment opportunities thought to be becoming available in the area in coming years, ensure that you have the skills that your future employers are looking for.
