A LEADING energy firm is urging residents to take the opportunity to learn more about how a £10bn investment project will affect their daily lives.

Plans are in place to build a new nuclear plant on the west coast of Cumbria that is set to employ thousands of people and signal a new age of financial prosperity for the region.

NuGen, the company responsible for delivering the project, is in the middle of its second phase of consultation to enable people to find out more about the station

Dan Gould, a spokesman for NuGen, believes these consultations provide an invaluable opportunity for local residents.

He said: "It's important to come along and find out about the detail of the project.

"If you have a specific concern about transport, worker accommodation or jobs there will be someone in the room who can address these concerns.

"Also by speaking to somebody you might be able to make suggestions that can impact the project.

"People can suggest an idea and help make it a better project for Cumbria."

The consultation is making its way through the majority of towns and villages along Cumbria's west coast, in addition to a number of places across the county.

People can drop into any of the sessions to view latest images of what the site will look like, scrutinise the environmental work being carried out by the team and even get a 360 degree view of what they can see from their house.

Kieron Ledger, a senior developer at 3DW, has helped develop a new piece of software to help NuGen visualise exactly what the impact of the power station will be.

He said: "We can drop people at any point so they can see how much they will be able to see from any given point.

"We've had people coming in saying they will be able to see it from their bedroom window so we can view it from that height as well."

People from the Furness area still have the opportunity to get involved by visiting one of the consultation events in the area next month.

The consultation will be in Kendal on July 12, Millom on July 13 and Bootle on July 14.

Fergus McMorrow, planning and consultation manager at NuGen, is encouraging people from Millom to pop in and learn more of the company's commitment to the town.

He said: "We do expect a number of people to move into the area, buy houses and make their own travel arrangements.

"We're in discussion with Network Rail and the new franchise as they are looking to put more services, giving more people more access to and from our jobs.

"We are very conscious of Millom and are thinking about what areas of development we can offer to Millom."
