THE deputy head of Cumbria's police force has called for members of the public to report any suspicious activity as he paid tribute to those killed in the Westminster terrorist attack.

As many as 40 people were hurt in yesterday's attack which has so far claimed four lives after an Islamic extremist mowed down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before stabbing a police officer to death near to Parliament in London.

Police in Cumbria have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Cumbria Constabulary's assistant chief constable Sean Robinson said: "The thoughts of all officers and staff at Cumbria Constabulary are with all those affected by yesterday’s events in London, including the family of our Metropolitan Police colleague who lost his life.

"Public safety, as always, remains our priority.

"Whilst there is no specific threat to the county, we would urge everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us on 101 or via the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321. Always call 999 in an emergency."
