POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was arrested in connection with a collision on the A66 which injured three people.

The incident happened on October 24 around 10.55 am on the A66 at Temple Sowerby.

A black Nissan Qashqai and a Dutch-registered Renault Master van were involved.

The two occupants of the Qashqai, a man and woman from South Shields who are both 67, were taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries.

A male passenger in the Dutch van was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with minor injuries.

The male driver of the van, a 44-year-old Dutch national, has been arrested on suspicion of causing a serious injury by dangerous driving and is helping police with enquiries.

The road has now re-opened.
