A NUMBER of roadworks are expected to cause delays on the M6 and A590 in Cumbria over the coming week.

Highways England has published details of the planned roadworks for the motorways and trunk roads in the region for the coming week.

M6 junction 34 Lancaster

Lancashire County Council work off the motorway on the Heysham Link project requires a lane 1 and hard shoulder closure in both directions on the motorway around junction 34.

M6 junction 39 Shap to 38 Tebay

A combination of resurfacing, bridge joint replacement and fencing renewal on the M6 southbound started on Monday 15 August for about 7 weeks. This will involve a temporary 50mph speed limit for the duration of the works and lane and slip road closures. Most of the work – between 8pm and 6am at night - will be done with lane closures but some slip roads will need to be closed overnight occasionally.

A590 Red Syke bridge to Swarthmoor

A £590,000 overnight resurfacing scheme got underway on Monday 8 August and is expected to take up to 5 weeks with temporary traffic lights in place overnight. Temporary traffic lights are also now in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Thursday (inclusive) for around 3 weeks for repairs to gullies along this same stretch. A temporary 40mph speed limit will be in place during the works and a 10mph limit will operate whilst convoy work is being undertaken.

A590 Ulverston

Overnight traffic signals will be in place on some Saturday nights (10pm to 10am) from 13 August into October whilst painting work is being undertaken to the bridges at Red Syke and Dykelands.

A590 Greenodd

Lane 1 of the eastbound carriageway just west of Greenodd roundabout is currently closed until further notice while we undertake a survey of the embankment.

A66 Bassenthwaite Lake

Overnight work to resurface a section of the eastbound carriageway began on Monday 8 August with overnight closures of the carriageway – between 8pm and 6am each night – for up to 4 weeks. Signed diversion routes will be in place with cars leaving the A66 at Papcastle and rejoining the A66 via the A595 to Bothel and A591 at Keswick. The recommended diversion for HGVs is to use the A595 and then travel to the M6 at junction 44. A lane closure will be in place during the day. No work will take place over the August bank holiday weekend.

A66 Kemplay Roundabout, Temple Sowerby and Kirkby Thore

As part of a programme to resurface short sections of the carriageway we’ll be working overnight (8pm to 6am) at Kemplay roundabout and the westbound carriageway between Carleton HQ and Kemplay roundabout from 7 nights from Thursday (1 September). Later in the month work will take place along and Temple Sowerby bypass and then between Low Moor and Kirkby Thore. Lane closures (dual carriageway sections) and temporary traffic lights (single carriageway sections) will be in use.
