OVERNIGHT road closures are taking place this week on the A590 in South Cumbria.

Work on the £306,000 project to resurface and reconstruct parts of Brettargh Holt roundabout and resurface sections of the westbound and eastbound carriageways between the roundabout and the M6, will take place between 8pm and 6am each night.

The schedule for the work, with overnight closure details, is as follows:

•Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 September - partial closure of Brettargh Holt roundabout with no access to the westbound A590. Drivers will need to use the northbound A591and then southbound A592 from Windermere, rejoining the A590 at Newby Bridge.

• Thursday 15 September – a partial closure of Brettargh Holt roundabout with no access from the eastbound A590 and the eastbound closed between Force Lane and the roundabout. Drivers will need to take diversions from Newby Bridge – following the A592 up to Windermere then joining the southbound A591- or from Gilpin Bridge.

• Friday 16 September – a partial closure of Brettargh Holt roundabout with no access from the southbound A591 to the westbound A590 via the roundabout . Drivers on the A591 will need to take a diversion via the roundabout with the M6 at junction 36. Drivers on the eastbound A590 will also be unable to use the roundabout to join the link to the M6 – using a diversion via the northbound then southbound A591.

• Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September – closure of the eastbound A590 between the roundabout and M6 with drivers diverted northbound up the A591 to Kendal and then onto the A65.

Drivers are also being advised that between 8pm on Wednesday (14 September) and 6am on Friday (16 September) there will be a temporary, 10mph, speed limit at the roundabout.
