TWO lanes and the hard shoulder of part of the M6 motorway in Cumbria are set to be closed overnight for two weeks.

The £472,000 Highways England project to resurface lane 1 of the southbound carriageway and carry out drainage repairs close to Junction 44 will be carried out in July.

The work will also require lane 1 to be closed during the day with a 50mph speed limit in operation at all times. The southbound entry slip road at Junction 44 will be closed for up to two nights with drivers being diverted to Junction 45.

Highways England project manager Peter Gee said: “This work will iron out any surface issues such as rutting from HGVs where tracks are worn into the road surface which is often an issue in lane 1. As well as repairing the drainage we’ll also be refreshing road markings and putting in new reflective road studs.”
