A MAN has been arrested after an alleged rape at a park in Cumbria. 

The alleged incident happened between 3.50am and 4.30am on Thursday in St James’ Park in Denton Holme, Carlisle. The victim was a 19-year-old woman.

Police say she met a man in the city centre and they walked towards Denton Holme. Once they entered the park the man then raped her.

The man, aged 23, from Peterborough, was arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of rape and has been detained for questioning.

A team of detectives and uniformed staff have worked throughout the day on enquiries. The victim is being supported by trained officers.
