A MAN has been remanded in custody after being charged with murder.
Mark James Bartholomew, 39, of no fixed abode, has been charged with the murder of 31-year-old Barrow man Andrew Hackett.
Bartholomew made no indication of plea when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court in Barrow today (14) in front of magistrates and a crowded public gallery.
He was remanded in custody ahead of a bail hearing on Monday December 18 at Preston Crown Court.
Appearing in the dock flanked by police officers, Bartholomew spoke only to confirm his name and address in the five minute hearing.
Lee Black, 38, of Gloucester Street, has been charged with assisting an offender following the incident on Sunday.
Appearing before magistrates following Bartholomew, Black pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody.
Both men will appear at Preston Crown Court on January 12 for a pre-trial hearing.
Paramedics and police attended Gloucester Street at around 7am on Sunday December 10, 2017.
Mr Hackett was taken from the scene by ambulance to hospital but later died.
