A TRIO of local restaurants in the Lake District have been included in a prestigious list of the best 100 restaurants in the UK.

The list compiled by The Sunday Times is released every year and the panel of judges includes household names such as Jamie Oliver and Antonio Carluccio.

L'Enclume in Cartmel, Gilpin in Windermere and Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside were lucky enough to make the cut for 2017.

L’Enclume is run by Simon Rogan, who is able to turn “the humblest ingredients into gastronomic gold”. Gilpin in Windermere serves British Asian cuisine, with dishes that “look like works of art” but have “an outrageous depth of flavour”. The Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside completes the list, and serves star dishes such as 199-day aged beef.

The North West of England was well-represented in this years list, with six other restaurants included.

The list does not rank the restaurants by number, choosing instead to select eight regional winners, and one overall.

Laurel Ives, editor of The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants, said: “The judging panel is made up of some of the most experienced and knowledgeable people in the industry, from chefs and owners, to our own expert writers. They have picked out the very best establishments that the UK’s impressive culinary scene has to offer.”
