A renowned Lake District country house hotel is on the market for offers in excess of £2.75m.

The 15-bedroom Miller Howe, overlooking Windermere, is rated as three stars by AA and has two rosettes for food in its 90-cover restaurant.

Set in four acres of grounds about a mile from Windermere village, it was built in 1916 by wealthy industrialist Thomas Harrison as a private residence.

During the 1980s, Miller Howe was one of the most fashionable destinations in the North of England.

This trend continued throughout the 90s when the property was owned by renowned newspaper editor Charles Garside.

The present owners, Martin and Helen Ainscough, bought the property in 2007.

The hotel is being marketed by Colliers International.
