A DISTRICT judge threw a 49-year-old man out of court after being repeatedly being interrupted from the dock.

Lee Gedling, 49, of Paradise Cottages, Ireleth, appeared before Furness Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to assaulting members of his family.

The court heard that on the afternoon of April 2, Gedling fell asleep in front of his TV at home after drinking vodka.

After being woken up he became angry and lashed out at his partner, Vanessa Newbury, and daughter Fern Gedling, 19.

Miss Newbury was left with red marks across her face after being slapped, and Miss Gedling received cuts to her hand and red marks to her chest after struggling with her father.

During proceedings, Gedling interrupted Mr Lee Dacre, prosecuting, which led to District Judge Gerald Chalk issuing him with two warnings to remain silent.

After a third interruption, Gedling was taken to the cells by two court officers, having to be escorted past his elderly parents in the public gallery.

Miss Amy Watkin, defending, told the court of Gedling's mental health problems and his issues with alcohol.

Gedling was sentenced to 70 days imprisonment, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £80, and was given a four-year restraining order preventing him from any contact with Miss Newbury.
