Voters are being invited to grill Copeland's would-be MPs at two events.

A public hustings is taking place in Keswick this Sunday, and another one is being held in Millom on June 2.

People are invited to the first hustings at St John's Church, on Ambleside Road, Keswick on Sunday from 7pm until 9pm.

The Rev Charles Hope, of St John's Church, is organising the event for all of Copeland's parliamentary candidates.

He said: "Hustings are a very good way of challenging all the candidates about their policies and their parties policies. The church offers a neutral venue in which all people are welcome and can safely express opinions and challenge each other."

Copeland's candidates are set to attend. These are Gillian Troughton, for Labour, Rebecca Hanson, for the Liberal Democrats, Trudy Harrison for the Conservatives and Herbie Crossman for UKIP.

Mr Hope, who is set to chair the event, said each candidate will have three minutes to outline the reason why they should be elected. Questions will then be asked for all candidates to answer.

There will also be time for questions to be raised to one candidate at a time.

Refreshments will be available from 6.30pm and also after the meeting.

Mr Hope is organising this event on behalf of Church Together in Keswick.

And the Rev Clive Shaw, for Millom with Thwaites and Haverigg, is organising Millom's event.

It will be held at the Beggar's Theatre on June 2 from 7pm until 9pm.

All candidates have been invited to the public event.

Mr Shaw said: "In many places it's churches who organise hustings as a public service because they are not aligned to any political party but they want to help people make a choice.

"Christians are encouraged to use their vote wisely."
