SPECULATION is mounting that Liam Gallagher is set to headline this year's Kendal Calling after a music app revealed the former Oasis frontman would be performing in Kendal "in seven months".

Kendal Calling 2018 is set to take place from Thursday July 26 to Sunday 29 - but the build-up begins this month.

The first wave of acts to appear at the festival, including some of the major headline names, usually arrives in January, so there isn't long to wait until all is revealed.

However, the Songkick mobile phone app appears to have revealed that former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher will be performing.

Yesterday, the singer's verified profile stated he will be playing in Kendal between July 25 and 29 - tallying with the dates for this year's Kendal Calling.

The concert has since been removed from the Songkick app.

The Mail has contacted the festival for a response.

Last year saw a haul of six headliners at the popular festival - the biggest line-up in the Cumbrian festival's history.

Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson, British indie acts Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers, Franz Ferdinand, and Frank Turner, and R'n'B star Tinie Tempah were the stand-out performers on the eclectic bill, and you can expect a similar level of internationally-renowned stars in 2018.

The line-up announcement for Kendal Calling 2016 was a little later than normal, coming on February 8, while 2017's announcement was January 26 - expect the hype to begin on www.facebook.com/kendalcalling within the next couple of weeks.

There haven't been any obvious clues so far as to who might appear, but last year there was a teaser or two on the festival's late December newsletter, which you can sign up for here: www.kendalcalling.co.uk/tickets

Of course, that doesn't mean the speculation hasn't already started! There have been some suggestions that Liam Gallagher might follow his brother to Lowther Deer Park - Noel headlined in 2016, and his younger sibling is back in the public eye following his well-received debut album release, As You Were, this autumn.

Following two well-received appearances at Kendal Calling so far, could this be the year that Blossoms eventually make the step up to the Main Stage?

They have already been lined up to appear at the Isle of Wight Festival a month earlier, but the rest of their summer looks clear - for now.

Studying who's played where this year is usually a good indicator as to who might be making their way to Cumbria's biggest music festival a year later: British indie pop band Bastille, dance music legend Fatboy Slim and rock outfit The 1975 - who are likely to have a new album out in 2018 - could all be good bets.

With tickets going on sale even before the last one had happened, you can expect a clamour as soon as the line-up is announced. To beat the rush, again head to www.kendalcalling.co.uk/tickets to make sure you don't miss out.
