For most homeowners, decorating a room is a task that they will undertake at least once in their lifetime, with the opinion that ‘it can’t be too difficult’, however, if you want your room to have a professional finish the reality is very different.

Preparation is Everything

Dust sheets, masking tape and floor protectors will help you keep furniture and carpets clean and coveralls, goggles and wipes will help you stay clean too.
Prepare any surfaces you are decorating by removing existing wallpaper, sanding and filling cracks, sanding woodwork, treating wood with knotting solution and masking off areas where a straight line is required.
Always sand any fills and if the walls are still uneven use a lining paper and choose a textured paper like Anaglypta which helps hide imperfections.

Get the Right Tools

You can’t just throw paint at the walls, before you start you will need to ensure you have the right tools, including; A Filling Knife, Stripping Knife, Wallpaper Kit, Paint Brushes, Pasting Table, Step Ladder, Sandpaper and Rollers. Clean tools after every job, so you can use them again.
