THE headteacher of a Furness primary school has said she has "regrettably" had to cancel a three-day sight-seeing trip to London following last night's terrorist attack.

A number of Askam Village School parents had already decided to pull their children out of tomorrow's trip because of concerns about safety.

The residential, which was due to take in visits to the London Eye, museums and shows, cost parents £225 and around 30 pupils were due to go on the trip.

Headteacher Fiona Newton said pupil safety had to be paramount.

In a message to parents, she said: "Having carefully considered the current situation in London, we have reluctantly decided that we cannot proceed with our residential visit.

"This is not a decision that has been taken lightly but everyone's safety has to be our number one priority.

"We are beginning the process of trying to find somewhere to take the children before the end of the year. We will be in touch early next week to meet with you."

Mrs Newton said she would now take steps to see if the cost of the trip could be reimbursed through the school's insurance.
