FREE security locks are set to be given to members of the public in a bid to tackle burglary in Barrow.
Cumbria Police are holding a crime prevention event with the support of Tesco in order to raise public awareness on the topic.
Sergeant Caroline Milligan said: “With the lighter nights and better weather an increase in the number of garden shed burglaries is expected as well associated thefts of bicycles and power tools.
“The idea behind the event is to educate the public on crime prevention so that they don’t leave themselves vulnerable to crime and to provide some crime prevention tools and advice.”
Both Cumbria Constabulary and Tesco are donating security locks as well as funding for padlock alarms and shed security packs.
The event is taking place at 10am on Thursday May 26 at Tesco, Hindpool Road, Barrow.
