A FIRE crew was dispatched earlier this morning after an elderly woman reported that fumes were coming out of her Aga cooker.

Firefighters from Ulverston Fire Station received a call at 6am and immediately headed to a property in Saves Lane, Askam.

Upon arrival, the fire had already gone out but fire crews had to open doors and windows to ventilate the property after fumes had spread from the kitchen to other rooms in the house.

The elderly woman had left the door of her cooker open overnight and before leaving, firefighters warned her that leaving oven doors open can cause carbon monoxide poisoning.
