"LUCKY" - that is how Brenda Taylor describes celebrating 60 years of marriage with her husband Peter.

Brenda and Peter Taylor celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on May 18.

Peter Taylor lives at St Cuthbert's Nursing Home in Aldingham while his wife lives at their family home in Flass Lane, Barrow.

The couple, along with 16 of their family members, celebrated at the nursing home before having an open house party back at the family home for anyone who couldn't make it to see Mr Taylor.

Mrs Taylor said: "We are lucky and blessed. Not many people make it to 60 years."

The pair married in 1957, at St James' Church, Blake Street, Barrow. They have two children, Alan, 57 and Julie 52.

Julie said: "St Cuthbert's laid on a buffet for us. It was a lovely day, we all sat outside in the courtyard in the sunshine."

Mr and Mrs Taylor received a card from the Queen to congratulate them on reaching the landmark anniversary.

Mrs Taylor said: "If I were to give young couples one piece of advice for a long and happy marriage, it would be to be honest and communicate with each other."

The family are asking people to give donations instead of presents; these will then be passed on to the Alzheimer's Society in Barrow.
