MOST of us will get an extra day off work this weekend with the August Bank Holiday falling on Monday August 28 so we've produced this handy guide to show you what activities and events are on offer locally.

There's always plenty to do around Cumbria for families, thrill-seekers, music-lovers, groups of mates and those who prefer to take it easy.

We've pulled together a list of some of the biggest events, categorised by area.

BARROW AND FURNESS

Sunday August 27 Noon until 11.30pm: DogFest (Black Dog, Dalton)

Carlisle rock 'n' roll outfit Hardwicke Circus have been confirmed as headliners for the all-day festival. Leading names from the Furness scene make up much of the line-up, with returning favourites The Sun Kings featuring highly once more. Their appearance was one of the highlight's of DogFest 2016, and with they will be looking to impress again with their completely revised set-list of rock covers.

Sunday August 27 2pm until 8pm: Ultimate Pop Festival (Craven Park, Barrow)

Atomic Kitten will be joined by former glamour model and reality TV star Katie Price while other acts on the bill include S Club, A1, Kevin Simm from Liberty X and Kavana. There will be plenty of other entertainment on the day, including local bands, activities for children and refreshments.

ULVERSTON

Saturday August 26 2pm until 9.30pm: Kings Fest 4 (Little Kings, Ulverston)

Plenty of live music with performances from Neil Johnston, Ukes, Phillip Johnson, John Lamb, Two Far Out, Anita Rose, The Bluegrass Project (Rod Demick & John Lamb), Em & Suze, Ukelear Fusion and The Acoustic Bobster (Bob Bell). The event will raise money for Refuge in Barrow.

Saturday August 26 from noon: Twang all day party (The Sun Inn, Ulverston)

A free event organised by the Furness promoters, DJs and radio hosts who will be joined by The Chadelics, Barrow singer-songwriter Mark Pratt, Paper Cranes, The Sides, Ulverston trio Strangers to Ourselves and The Messengers.

Friday August 25 - Sunday August 27: Solfest (Solway)

PENRITH

Friday August 25 - Sunday August 27: Wannasee Festival (Penrith)

This live music event features a stunning line up of world-class tributes to many of music history’s most popular acts, past and present. Acts will pay tribute to Michael Jackson, Queen, David Bowie, Meatloaf, Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, AC/DC, Guns n Roses, Meatloaf, Bon Jovi, Bee Gees, Simple Minds, The Blues Brothers, and many more

Saturday August 26 10.30am until 5.30pm: Penrith Chilli Festival

This free event will showcase everything chilli - from mild to hot and extreme chillies, cooking sauces, dips, snacks, james, pickles, ginger, olives, hot curries and much more. Live music will also be on offer. The chilli eating competition will take place at 3.30pm.

RHEGED

Sunday August 27 10am until 4pm: Cumbria Guitar Show

As well as a host of displays and trade stands featuring top manufacturers and retailers, the event will feature performances from Chickenbone John (Cigar Box Guitars), Ken Nicol (Fylde Guitars) , Anth Purdy (Swing Jazz Guitar), Adrain Ingram & Darren Dutson-Bromley, and Dean Newton (Rock & Blues workshops).

KESWICK

Sunday August 27 at 7.30pm: Take That Experience (Theatre by the Lake, Keswick)

The Take That Experience mark a decade together as the ultimate tribute act with their best show yet. The Take That Experience brings you all the classic songs you know and love, from the 90s through to the present including smash hits Pray, Relight my Fire, Patience, Shine and These Days.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NORTH WEST

If you're prepared to travel a little further afield, this weekend is Manchester Pride Festival.

Thousands of people are expected to watch Saturday's parade through the city and then dance well into the night.

Flagship event The Big Weekend, held in Manchester's world famous Gay Village, will see a number of acts performing, including Clean Bandit, Mel C and Faithless doing a DJ set.

The parade is free and tickets for Big Weekend are from £18.50 for an adult.
