A MAN has been charged after an alleged armed robbery at a post office in Cumbria.
Mark Mercer, 47, originally from Liverpool but who has been living in Workington, has been charged with armed robbery following an incident at Maryport Post Office on Monday.
He has also been charged with three firearms offences, two handbag thefts and handling.
He is due to appear before Carlisle Magistrates (held in Crown Court) this morning.
A 24-year-old woman arrested yesterday has been released on bail until March 14.
Police were called just before 11.30am on Monday to reports of an armed robbery at the Post Office on High Street. Armed police officers were deployed to the area to search for the offender.
