A NEW strategy to make the county one of the best places to cycle has been backed by the council.

The Cumbria cycling strategy aims to promote healthy outdoor lifestyles, as well as the area's spectacular scenery and the sport itself.

Developed by a range of partners including British Cycling and the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national park authorities, the scheme was ratified by Cumbria County Council at its cabinet meeting on July 27.

Cllr Deborah Earl, cabinet member for public health and community services said she was "delighted" by the opportunity.
