LABOUR'S ruling body has won its bid to overturn a High Court decision allowing new party members to vote in the forthcoming leadership election.
Diane Abbott, the shadow health secretary and a key ally of Mr Corbyn, was asked on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme if she believed Mr McNicol should consider his position as general secretary if the party loses today's ruling.
She said: "No, no, no. The general secretary serves at the will and pleasure of the NEC and that's a matter for them. It's not a matter for MPs."
When pushed on the issue, she said: "He serves at the will and pleasure of the NEC. It's not a matter for the leader, it's not a matter for me."
She added: "I don't think he is going to walk away."
