£500k investment for Cumbrian road

CUMBRIA County Council is to carry out £500k maintenance works on the A5086 near Workington.

By Gareth Jones

The works will be completed between the Mockerkin south junction and the Dean/Pardshaw crossroads.

The major investment will involve carriageway resurfacing and structural maintenance on this principle route. The works will be split into two phases.

Phase one will commence next Monday between Mockerkin south junction and Ullock junction, and is expected to be completed by Sunday March 24.

Phase two will commence on Monday March 25 and is expected to be completed by Friday April 12.

To ease congestion, works will be suspended over the Easter bank holiday weekend between Thursday March 28 and Monday April 1. A full road closure on the A5086 will be in operation throughout the works with appropriate diversion routes in place via the A66 and A595.

Councillor Tony Markley, cabinet member for highways, said: “These essential works will bring great benefits to this much used road, and Cumbria County Council ask that motorists would, wherever possible, navigate via the official diversion routes and avoid using the surrounding villages to circumvent the closure.”
