An evening of exciting performances wowed guests at a Cumbrian school as their annual summer recital took place.

The event, hosted at Austin Friars in Carlisle, showcased a wide range of musical talent – with pupils performing individual songs on piano, alto saxophone, flute, trombone, cornet and more.

Performances included classical compositions such as Mozart’s ‘Concerto in D’ (1st movement) and Cimarosa’s ‘Allegro’, as well as contemporary arrangements like Abba’s ‘Thank You for the Music’ and ‘Under the Sea’ from The Little Mermaid.

Several groups also performed including ‘Some Strings Attached’, a brass ensemble, the senior choir, and the school’s swing band.

Charles Hattrell, director of music at Austin Friars, said: "Music is such an important part of our curriculum at Austin Friars, and we aim to showcase the talents of our pupils whenever we can.

"This year’s recital was a continuation of the school’s goal to assist performers in nurturing their talent through musical expression, and I would like to thank everybody who contributed to the success of the event.”

Luisa Bandoni, a 2nd Form pupil who performed a solo and as part of the senior choir, said: “Performing in front of so many people was quite nerve-wracking, but it was really satisfying to hear them all clap when I finished singing!”
